Inquiries do NOT raise scores (ConsumerInfo.com lies)

I've been wondering why people have been insisting that inquiries raise scores.

Now I know where that entirely FALSE statement comes from:

You're right... they don't raise them, they LOWER them!!

Hard inquires do lower FICO scores, but soft inquires do not. If a company pulls your bureau to send you an offer, or you check your own report, that's a soft inquiry, and it has no bearing on your FICO score. When you actually APPLY for credit, however, a hard inquiry in noted on your report, and it lowers your FICO score
